Injured Nadia Petrova Out, Amelie Mauresmo In at Amelia Island

In hopes of reversing her singles slump, former world number one Amelie Mauresmo has made a last minute commitment to the Bausch & Lomb Championships.

Tournament officials also announced on Monday that Nadia Petrova has withdrawn because of a quad muscle tear.

The 2008 Bausch & Lomb Championships returns to the oceanfront resort of Amelia Island Plantation, April 7 – 13, 2008. Qualifying rounds will take place Saturday, April 5 and Sunday, April 6. The main draw play begins Monday, April 7.

“We are thrilled Amelie will be returning to the Bausch & Lomb Championships. Besides being a past champion, Amelie joins Davenport and Williams in our draw as part of an elite group of former number one in the world ranked players,” said John Arrix, tournament director.

With the good news of Mauresmo’s entry, the tournament draw bids farewell to Nadia Petrova.

“I sustained a tear in my right quad muscle when competing at the Sony Ericsson Open, Miami,” said Petrova.

“I am very sorry to be missing two of my favorite events. Amelia Island and Charleston, from which I have many happy memories. I expect to be back competing on the Tour in the near future and I wish the tournament organizers, sponsors, and fans a great week of tennis.”

Nathalie Dechy will now move into the open main draw slot.
