Bausch & Lomb Championships officials announced on Saturday that Venus Williams has withdrawn from next week’s tournament.

The former world number one has pulled out because of an undisclosed medical ailment.

“I have had great experiences at the Bausch & Lomb Championships and regret that I will not be participating this year,” said Williams who was expected to be the third seed at the Tier II tournament.

“I am working on resolving a medical issue and will be getting treatment next week which is requiring me to miss the event. I look forward to being back on Tour soon.”

Venus plans to attend the event one day next week to show her support of the Bausch & Lomb Championships. Williams was at the Sony Ericsson Open on Saturday to support her sister Serena who is facing Jelena Jankovic in the women’s final.
