Serena Williams proved that she is the player to beat on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour by winning her third straight title of the 2008 tennis season on Sunday.

Williams, the fifth seed at the Family Circle Cup, defeated ninth seed Vera Zvonareva in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

With three wins already to her credit, Serena Williams heads into the Roland Garros clay swing with a near-perfect 19-1 record. This was Serena’s first victory on clay since 2002.

“It was definitely an up-and-down final like most of my matches have been this week. I hit a lot of errors today but I’m glad I was able to come through,” said Serena after winning her thirty-first career title.

I’m not even reaching my peak yet. I feel like I could do so much better. I think if I am healthy and I’m playing at my best, it’s hard to beat me.”

Serena’s victory boosted her from No. 9 to No. 6 on Monday’s edition of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour rankings.
