I am a little confused, does it mean Iva is having to play an unfinished game and proceed to the semis right away ? on the same day ?

Dapxin,
You are correct. Because Ivanovic and Szavay had their match suspended because of darkness, they started the day’s proceedings on the main show court.
As you may know by now, Ivanovic beat Szavay and had a few hours of rest before she started her match against Elena Dementieva.
It’s hard when players have to do this, but there is nothing that can be done especially once the tournament is down to the final two days of play.
