How Well Do You Know Roland Garros?

Hopefully tomorrow the skies will clear over Paris, giving us a chance to watch a full day of tennis at the French Open.
But in the meanwhile, why not test your knowledge of Roland Garros by attempting to answer some trivia questions?
1. Who is the only previous champion in the 2008 women’s singles draw?
2. What year was the first women’s tournament held at Roland Garros?
3. Name the French words for “red clay.”
4. Who was the last left-handed women’s champion?
5. How many French players were entered in the 2008 women’s main draw?
6. What American female player made her debut in the main draw this year?
7. What year did the French Open go “open”?
8. Who was the only player in WTA history to win the French Open with a double bagel in the final?
9. Name the three Frenchwomen who have won Roland Garros since the end of World War II.
10. Was Roland Garros a tennis player or a French politician?
Feel free to leave your guesses in the comments below! I’ll publish the answers to the trivia questions on Friday.

I’m guessing on most of these. Here we go:
1. Serena Williams
2. 1948?
3. Ter-ra Ba-tu (Phonetic Spelling)
4. Monica Seles?
5. 16?
6. Vania Kiing?
7. 1973?
8. Chris Everett?
9. Mary Pierce, Suzanne Langlan, and Justine Henin (FRENCH-Belgium)?
10. I know nothing of him so, I would say French politician?

Sorry, Will.I.AM, I just corrected a typo.
Question No. 9 should have been since the end of World War II, not the Open era.
If you want, you can take another go at it.

Oh ok. Unfortunately, they said the answer during today’s telecast, so I can’t answer. I think it was during Maria’s match on Tennis Channel.

1. I don’t know if you mean previous champion (Serena Williams) or one who is defending a title from last year (which could include Doubles champ Mara Santangelo or Mixed champ Nathalie Dechy)
2. 1908?
3. Terre Batu?
4. Moica Seles?
5. 20?
6. Madison Brengle
7. 1968
8. Steffi Graf
9. Francois Durr, Mary Pierce, no idea
10. wasn’t he a pilot?

Kurt - I’ve changed it to make it more clear. I meant previous champion.
