Amelie Mauresmo’s tumultuous history at the French Open continued on Thursday as the French star was upset in the second round of the tournament.
Qualifier Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain ousted Mauresmo in two sets 6-3, 6-4.
Mauresmo, a two-time Grand Slam champion, has never been able to bring her best game to the courts at home in Paris. In fourteen appearances at Roland Garros, Mauresmo has lost in the first week of competition nine times. Her best results were quarterfinal finishes in 2003 and 2004.
It was an error-strewn performance by the 2006 Australian Open and Wimbledon champion on Philippe Chatrier stadium Thursday. Mauresmo littered the court with forty unforced errors, while Suarez Navarro posted only fourteen errors.
Carla Suarez Navarro is ranked outside the Top 100 at No. 132 and is playing in her first Grand Slam main draw.
