AELTC Announces Wimbledon Wildcards

The All-England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club has announced the preliminary list of wildcard invitations into the 2008 Championships at Wimbledon.

Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro is one of six players already granted direct entry into the Grand Slam.

Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro, who reached the quarterfinals at Roland Garros, is one of six players already granted direct entry into the Grand Slam.

Joining Suarez Navarro is a quartet of British players–Elena Baltacha, Naomi Cavaday, Katie O’Brien, and Melanie South. Poland’s Urszula Radwanska has also been given a wildcard.

The names of the remaining two singles wildcards have not been released.

Great Britain’s doubles teams of Elena Baltacha and Naomi Cavaday, Amanda Elliot and Katie O’Brien, and Anne Keothavong and Melanie South will compete in the doubles main draw, with two other doubles wildcards yet to be named.

The 2008 Championships begin on June 23 at Wimbledon.
