For almost two years, France’s Mary Pierce has refused to give up her dream of returning to tennis after suffering a career-threatening injury.
Her inspiration was the hope of competing at the Beijing Olympics, and on Monday, Pierce moved one step closer to a comeback.
The French Tennis Federation has released its roster of tennis players for the 2008 Summer Olympics and has officially named Mary Pierce to the French squad.
Pierce will be joined in the singles competition by Alize Cornet, Tatiana Golovin and Virginie Razzano. According to Reuters, Cornet will play doubles with Razzano, while Golovin will compete with 2006 Wimbledon champion Amelie Mauresmo.

Is this possible? Doesn’t Pierce have to ranked at least 56th to compete at the olympics?
