The second half of the women’s singles draw will compete on Tuesday at the 2008 Championships at Wimbledon.
Defending champion Venus Williams will raise the curtain on day two with a first round match against Great Britain’s Naomi Cavaday.
Tania’s Picks for Tuesday
7 – Venus Williams (USA) vs. Naomi Cavaday (GBR)
This is a great way to start off the second day’s proceedings with defending champion Williams up against local girl Naomi Cavaday. The British will have something to cheer about on day two however it may be short-lived. Like her sister, Venus has opted to enter Wimbledon with no pre-tournament match practice, however she will be keen to do well at her favoured event, particularly given the early exit at the French.

9 – Dinara Safina (RUS) vs. Yung-Jan Chan (TPE)
A loss in the final of the WTA grass court tournament in s’-Hertogenbosch Saturday to Thai Tamarine Tanasugarn was unexpected for Dinara given her recent form. Whether this is a sign of fatigue or not, she will be determined in her first round clash against Chan from Chinese Taipei. Encouragingly for Safina, she has a string of grass court matches under her belt.

25 – Lindsay Davenport (USA) vs. Renata Voracova (CZE)
This should be a stock standard match for Lindsay to ease herself into the tournament. With her veteran status nowadays and despite withdrawing from the Eastbourne event last week, the former champion will be keen to bring on her game – as this may very well be one of the last times we see her at Wimbledon.

She Said What?
Serena Williams about her new trench coat:
It’s a very lightweight fabric. It’s a woven so it has a little give in it as well. On the inside it’s stitched with gold. It has a little give on both ways. It’s very movable. It’s very light. It’s just delectable.”

I hope Lindsay Davenport’s leg trouble doesn’t take her out too early.

I agree, Paula. I’m watching her play right now on Court 2 and although it is heavily taped, it does not appear to be hurting her game.
Still, I do wonder what will happen when she faces someone who can dictate better and can make her move around the court more. She is in the same quarter as Elena Dementieva–and we all know how well Elena can run.

Strike that first statement about the knee . . . Lindsay’s really starting to struggle and it’ll be a miracle if she makes it through this match without retiring.
