Lindsay Davenport Withdraws from 2008 Wimbledon Championships

Lindsay Davenport’s comeback return at the 2008 Wimbledon Championships has ended after just one match.

The 1999 former champion pulled out of the Grand Slam on Thursday because of a knee injury.

Davenport played her first round match on Tuesday against Renata Voracova, but was clearly bothered the injury, which she sustained last week while practicing at Eastbourne.

“I’m just hoping it pulls up well,” Davenport said after playing through pain for a three-set victory. “Some days it feels okay, and other days it is a problem.”

She had been scheduled to play Gisela Dulko in the second match on Court No. 3. Dulko now advances to the third round by walkover, where she will face the winner of today’s match between Elena Dementieva and Timea Bacsinszky.
