ITF Announces 2009 Fed Cup Dates

The International Tennis Federation has announced the dates for next season’s Fed Cup by BNP Paribas ties.

World Group and World Group II first round play will be held the weekend of February 7-8, 2009.

The semifinals and play-offs are scheduled for April 25-26 and the final round will be played November 7-8.

“Just as in Davis Cup, the Fed Cup Final will provide an outstanding season finale,” said ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti. “The 2009 calendar as it stands sees Davis Cup and Fed Cup rounds spread out evenly throughout the year.”

Fed Cup by BNP Paribas is the largest annual international team competition in women’s sport, with 89 nations entered in 2008. The event was established in 1963 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the ITF.
