The draw has been released, the players have arrived, and the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing officially began today with the Opening Ceremony.
Tell us who you think will win the gold medal in today’s edition of Open Forum Friday!
I’ve already made my pick, but now is your chance to join the discussion. Will a former Grand Slam champion add to her prestigious collection or is this an opportunity for a talented newcomer to rise to the occasion on the grandest stage in sports?
Everyone, thank you for participating and don’t forget that NBC’s coverage of the tennis competition begins on Sunday for those of us in the United States.

Whoever survives the poisoned Beijing air Aaress maybe. You’ll remember JuJu complained about some time ago.
I think its pretty open, and there could be a surprise winner.
But I’ll stick with Venus

Good point, Jim. From what we’re hearing already from a few of the players, the conditions are pretty rough.
Given her asthma and breathing problems, Justine would have had a hard time defending her medal.

I say Dinara Safina - she’s on a role this year…

My surprise winner is Flavia Penetta. Venus is my safe bet.

I’ll take Serena on hard courts, but I would love to have seen Maria playing. I would love to see Nicole make some noise - talk about a very dissappoing year that could be turned around right here.

I reckon Safina or Jie Zheng.

I’m going with Safina over Serena.
I originally thought the Bronze medal match was going to be between Radwanska and Kuznetsova, but so match for that happening!
