Shoulder Injury Likely to Keep Maria Sharapova Out for Rest of 2008

Maria Sharapova will likely be absent from the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour for the rest of the 2008 tennis season.

Two tears in her right shoulder prompted her withdrawal from the Olympics and the US Open.

Maria Sharapova will likely be absent from the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour for the rest of the 2008 tennis season.

Two tears in her right shoulder prompted her withdrawal from the Olympics and the US Open.

Sharapova’s agent, Max Eisenbud, confirmed the news to USA Today on Wednesday. Sharapova is under doctor’s orders to not hit a tennis ball for four weeks.

She is expected to spend most of the fall in Scottsdale, Arizona while working with physical therapist Brett Fischer.

    Bummer!! My favorite and who I think is the most exciting player out for the year. Hopefully, 2009 will bring her good health and a return to the #1 spot she desereves. Get well Maria.
