Knee Surgery and School Beckons to Justine Henin

Justine Henin

Life has been anything but dull for Justine Henin since she surprisingly announced her immediate retirement from professional tennis in May.

The former world number one has been busy with her newest coaching academy, speaking engagements, and most recently, preparing for a much-needed knee surgery.

However, it has not been all work and no play for the diligent Belgian, who recently enjoyed her first real vacation in years.

“I had a splendid summer,” wrote Henin in a diary entry published today on her official website. “I felt a deep need to get my breath back. My first true vacation gave me an opportunity to really relax.”

Her athletic pursuits have been limited since her retirement; no small thanks to a lingering knee injury sustained during her years on the tennis circuit.

“Many people ask me if I still do a lot of sports,” said Henin. “Unfortunately, the answer is no. My knee still bothers me, and in a few days I’ll have surgery done on it. I’m impatient, and can’t wait to recover from the operation to do sports again.”

Before her fans start getting their hopes up for a comeback, Henin is quick to clarify that “sports” does not include professional tennis.

“I’ll be honest with you, I do not miss tennis,” added Henin. “I keep a magic feeling of that period of my life. A time where I learned so much, but a new life fills me, and I am completely satisfied.”

Her new life includes completion of her high school studies, something that was pushed to the side during her tennis career.

“In the peace and calm of Monaco, I go forward with my courses,” said Henin. “I would like to take my final exams next year. I admit that it hasn’t been easy, but it’s very rewarding. I will do everything I can to complete this challenge.”

I was never really a fan of Justine’s but it nice to see she’s happy with life after tennis.

It’s great to know that Justine is giving something back to the tennis world with her academy. Could it be possible that one day we’ll have American clay version of Justine or Nadal emerging from 6th Sense Orlando? I’m looking forward to it.

High School will suck the life out of you…so Justine probably is too bsuy studying precalculus to think about tennis.

I’m happy she’s not thinking about tennis and just focusing on her life. It would **** to be on vacation and knowing you have to be back on the court to practice for a tournament.

She has a lot of money to fall back on so she doesn’t have to worry about retirment.
