Four years after losing all her matches at the 2004 season-ending tournament, Vera Zvonareva continued her title run at the Sony Ericsson Championships with a perfect 2-0 round robin record.
Venus Williams also kept her goal of a maiden Championships title alive by beating Elena Dementieva in three sets.
Zvonareva outlasted 2008 Roland Garros champion Ana Ivanovic on Wednesday after three grueling sets of tennis. Ivanovic lost her second match at the Sony Ericsson Championships 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-4.
Venus Williams came back from the brink of a first set loss to Dinara Safina on Tuesday, but started aggressively today against Elena Dementieva.
Dementieva, the gold medal winner at the Beijing Olympics, recovered to take the second set before ultimately losing to the American 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
The only former season-ending Championships winner in the draw, Serena Williams, won her opening rubber 6-4, 6-1 against Dinara Safina in the last match of the day.

what happened with ana?? why?
even I’m the big fan of maria sharapova but I like ana too.
half the season 2008 is too bad. maria sharapova shutted down and ana form is pathetic..
I do really not enjoy to watch tennis this rest season
Astrid,
Ana is suffering from a viral illness. Because of her 0-2 round robin record, she is not favored to reach the semifinals. She will play her third and final round robin match on Friday against Svetlana Kuznetsova.
Ivanovic may really have a “viral illness” ( in itself a meaninglessly vague term) at this time. However, her form has been poor since RG.
agree.
seems like she doesn’t have much confident on her game.
