We are adding another woman to the roster for this year’s Players to Watch Series at On the Baseline, but she is hardly the new kid on the block.

Three-time Grand Slam champion Lindsay Davenport has decided to continue playing professional tennis in 2009 and has entered the Australian Open.

How far do you think Lindsay will go in 2009? Many of her critics and fans assumed that Davenport would stop after 2008, despite winning three more career titles, but it appears that the California native is ready for another season on the Tour.

Do you think Lindsay still has what it takes to win another major? Can her game compete against the likes of Jelena and Ana, or her long-time rivals Venus and Serena? Tell us your opinion in the comments below during this week’s edition of Open Forum Friday!

Have an excellent weekend, everyone!

She has to stay healthy, keep her stamina up to endure all the sets, use wisdom gained from past experience, and play her best… yep, she can do it…. (this from one that knows little of tennis….)

I agree, as long as Lindsay stays healthy, and still has a hunger to compete she can hang with the top players. She is an amazing ball striker and an Icon in Women’s tennis. I wish her a successful 2009. Go Lindsay!!!

I totally agree wit the first two replies. The key is Lindsay’s health and if she can keep that in check then anything is possible. The hunger must be still there as she doesn’t have to play on so I hope 2009 is kind to her as you would think it would be her last year as player?

Though I agree health is a factor for Lindsey for 2009, Her biggest obstacle to win another grand slam is her own mental strength. Lindsey has lost many a matches when she gets down on herself… I hope she does great this year, and am glad she is still playing.
