World number one Jelena Jankovic leads the list of seeded players for the 2009 Australian Open in Melbourne, Australia.
Tennis Australia announced on Thursday the thirty-two women who were given seeded positions for the season’s first Grand Slam.
Noticeably absent from the tournament is defending champion Maria Sharapova, who withdrew because of a lingering shoulder problem. China’s Na Li is also out of the event because of a knee injury.
The Australian Open official draw ceremony will take place at 10:00am Friday in the Skyline Room at Melbourne Park.
