Can defending champion Ana Ivanovic fight off her challengers and repeat her 2008 title? Will top seed Dinara Safina triumph for the first time in the desert? Or will another talented woman take home the trophy next Saturday?

Please leave your pick in the comments below. Also, if you really want top bragging rights, leave your selections for the winner AND runner-up. Everyone who correctly names the champion and finalist will receive special recognition in an Aces and Faults post after the tournament!

My pick for champion is Vera Zvonarëva. She’s the fourth seed, one of the most flairsomely talented players in the game, and has proved that she can compete at the top level by reaching the final of the 2008 season-ending championships, and her first Major semi-final at the Australian Open. It’s criminal that no one’s talking about Vera!

    Runner-up: Lucie Šafárová.

    Victoria Azarenka

Well, I don’t know if Safina can pull herself together or if the possibility of becoming #1 will make her tight. Zvonareva is doing well and doing well in doubles w Azarenka. Like Alice said, I think Azarenka can pull off an upset. Ivanovic won today (the 16th) but didn’t look that good. Dulko just didn’t take the opportunities she has. Well after thinking about it, I will say Zvonareva but don’t count out Safina or Azarenka.

Ana Ivanovic, I hope, she looks strong and she has a new coach who helped Martina Navratilova, Lindsay Davenport, Lindsay Capriatti, and Xavier Malisse. But, I don’t know, it’ll be interesting.

While watching Safina at this time playing Craybas, Azarenka may have the edge.

Not that I’m impressed a lot, but this is a lot more than I expected for when I stumpled upon a link on Furl telling that the info here is awesome. Thanks.
