Second seed Jelena Jankovic also made an early exit later in the afternoon.

Beijing Olympic gold medalist Elena Dementieva was upset in the second round of the 2009 BNP Paribas Open on Saturday.

The No. 3 seed was knocked out in three sets 7-6(2), 2-6, 6-1 by Petra Cetkovska from the Czech Republic.

Cetkovska is making her first main draw appearance at Indian Wells after failing to qualify last year. She defeated Stephanie Foretz of France in the first round before outlasting an erratic Dementieva on Saturday afternoon.

Dementieva, the 2006 finalist at Indian Wells, struggled with her serve during the two hour match and posted fourteen double faults.

Cetkovska was born in Prostejov, Czech Republic, although the twenty-four year-old now lives in Paris, France. She is coached by Maxime Boye and is currently ranked at No. 71 on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour rankings.

She has been playing a lot of tennis. Two titles in the beginning, semi at AO, finalist at Paris, semi at Dubai. That is a lot of play and great results. But I hope she can get back on track at Miami because I really hoped this year she might win at Roland Garros or one of the majors. She’ll be 28 next fall but is playing some of her best tennis. Go in Miami Elena!

I agree. I hope she wins Miami and eventually the French and/or US open

Dementieva is a great player but she needs time to rest and to improve her serve. i hope she wins one Miami.
