INDIAN WELLS, California—Instead of doing traditional Aces and Faults posts during the rest of Indian Wells, I will periodically publish some of the additional notes and quotes I’ve come across during the day.
Dinara Hunts for a Husband
When asked about her plans for the future once she retires, Safina confided that she would like to be a wife and mother. However, there is one small problem for the top seed. Laughing, Safina admitted that she still has to find a husband first.
Agnieszka and a Cold Too Much for Szavay
Szavay played well during the battle of the Aggies on Tuesday, but came up short in the third set. Part of that was likely due to Szavay’s shortened breath. She was coughing after long points and when I talked to her camp afterward, they said that she has been battling a cold and taking medication for the past few days because she is having trouble breathing.
Strong Field for Indian Wells
The big three–Serena, Venus and Maria–were missing, but that’s not to say that Indian Wells has a weak field. Larry Scott reminded the press this morning that in 2008, the tournament was missing fifteen of the Top 50 players. This year, only four were missing in action.
Players and Media Unite
The BNP Paribas Open is one of the unique events to offer a joint player and media dining room. Meal times are a who’s who in tennis, plus with the players eating the same food, you can expect there to be plenty of nutritious menu items.
Fingernail Fashion
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova is sporting ten colorful fingernails this week. Her nails are colored dark blue and yellow, with white flowers on a few fingers.
No Hurry to Skip Town
Although many of the top players have exited the draw, I’ve spotted several of them hanging around the grounds and practicing, including Cara Black, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Amelie Mauresmo. The grounds and ambience of Indian Wells must be worth sticking around for an extra few days.

The way I see Dinara playing on Tennis TV, I feel like she should concentrate on consistency on her serve and forehand and not on a husband. Also I wish Szavay would return to her form from, I think it was, 2007. I thought this tournament would be it but she did make a respectable showing going to 4th rd.
I get the feeling Marion left shortly after her loss. But look out for at Miami Aaress. :)
Sunny, Obviously, we won’t ever know, but if Szavay had not been sick, she might not have lost to Radwanska. It was a tight match.
Alice, I haven’t seen Marion here at Indian Wells, but I’ll keep an eye out for once I get to Miami next week.
