Clijsters’ Return in the Works?
Is Kim Clijsters planning to make a comeback? Lindsay Davenport, one of the most popular tennis moms of all time, thinks that the former US Open champion could be joining the ranks of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour’s working mothers soon.
Davenport, speaking from Indian Wells where she is working for FSN as a commentator, has revealed that Clijsters sent her an email asking about advice and tips on how to juggle the hassles of the Tour and travel with a baby. “So I think she will play WTA tournaments beside exhibition games in Wimbledon and the United States,” Davenport said.
Tips for Tournament Visitors
If you are looking for tips on how to best experience the grounds at the BNP Paribas Open, you need look no further than GroundsPass.net for advice and video podcasts. I caught up with Marcus to ask for a few suggestions to pass along to our readers.
“Arrive early! That is probably the number one tip that I can offer. This is the biggest tennis event in the world, outside of the Grand Slams. That means that there are a lot of people showing up “on time” each day. I say, beat the rush. It’s better to get here early, and have a picnic in the parking lot, than to sit in traffic for hours.
Also, dress for the elements. Many people do not realize that the desert has the most extreme temperatures of any other location. It can go from the 90′s during the day, to the 40′s at night. Prepare by bringing a backpack with your “layers” inside. Hydrate frequently. The dry air in Indian Wells dries up your perspiration quickly, so that you do not realize you are getting dehydrated. Bring a sealed bottle of water, or sports drink, and refill often.
Every year, a couple of weeks before the event, I send out an exclusive and more comprehensive email to my subscribers, chock full of insider tip, and money saving opportunities. Plus, I have an annual BNP Paribas FREE ticket giveaway, as well! (Tickets for this year are already distributed)”

Celebrities in the House
The stars are turning out to see the stars in Indian Wells this week. Gwen Stefani came out to support Roger Federer on Wednesday and sat next to Mirka in a shaded box. Being pregnant has its perks as the player’s box is normally located court side in the sun.
Here’s Looking at You, Kid
The security force here at Indian Wells includes a few older gentlemen, one specifically who guards his post vigilantly outside the press room. After two late nights in a row, I’ve made friends with him and whenever I pass him, I get a big smile and “Hey, kid!”
A Warning in Time Saves a Fine
Mashona Washington gave herself a code violation warning on court Thursday during her doubles match with Bethanie Mattek. Right before finishing a sentence with a verbal obscenity, Washington stopped short and reminded herself out loud that she would be fined if she continued. Maybe her arrest on Monday made her think twice.
