Former world number one Kim Clijsters has finally made it official.

After nearly a week of rumors and speculation, Clijsters has formally announced her decision to return to tennis and the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour.

“I intend to play in the US Open and almost certainly in the tournaments at Cincinnati (early August)- my first official tournament back – and Toronto,” said Clijsters.

“I have been practicing on a regular basis with my training partner Wim Fissette and my physical coach Sam Verslegers, sometimes as much as six hours a day.

The Western & Southern Financial Group Women’s Open in Cincinnati also announced this morning that the tournament has awarded her a wild card.

Among those expected to compete with Clijsters for the title include Venus and Serena Williams, Ana Ivanovic, Jelena Jankovic, Elena Dementieva and Dinara Safina.

This is great! I hope she hits the ground running. If she is ready, I think she can take on some of the top 10.
