Sony Ericsson Open 2009

MIAMI, Florida—Martha Stewart and her beloved pooches made headlines recently after launching their new online blog.

But Serena Williams has trumped the domestic diva. Her dog Laurelei sends emails.

Speaking with the press after beating Jie Zheng in the fourth round on Monday, Williams revealed that her dog talks to Venus’ dog Harold—-by email. “My dog sent her dog an email, but her mailbox was full so he never got it,” said Williams. “She was really upset. Maybe we’ll try to resend it tonight. She worked on typing it out and all, so I’ll have her redo it.”

Coach Wanted: Must Like Moscow
Svetlana Kuznetsova has split from her coach Olga Morozova. The former US Open champion is full of praise for Morozova, but said that they were not compatible. “She’s an unbelievable person and great coach, but we kind of didn’t get each other tenniswise and outsidewise,” said Kuznetsova.

She is looking for a replacement, but has a major prerequisite—the potential candidate must be willing to travel to Moscow. “It’s not going to be easy because I would like still to live and train in Russia. I realize that sometimes I have to go out, but I need to come back because it makes me feel good,” Kuznetsova added. “So we’ll see how it will work out. Not many coaches will go to Moscow.”

From Tennis to Surfing
Samantha Stosur credits some of her renewed success to the encouragement of her Australian countrywoman Layne Beachley. Beachley, a seven-time World Championships surfing winner, recently gave her advice about how to handle pressure. Her mentoring did Stosur a world of good as Samantha is into the quarterfinals of Miami with big wins over Amelie Mauresmo and Dinara Safina.

A Vote of Confidence from Andy
Britain’s Laura Robson became the World Junior Girl’s No. 1 today, and she received a special vote of confidence from Britain’s top male player, Andy Murray. “I think she’s very good,” Murray said on Tuesday. “I think she will for sure get into the top 50.”
