Defending Roland Garros champion Ana Ivanovic bid adieu to Paris on Sunday.

The 2008 women’s singles title holder was dispatched in straight sets by rising star Victoria Azarenka in the fourth round.

Azarenka escaped a close match against Carla Suarez Navarro in the third round, but today against Ivanovic, she was all-business.

“It’s never easy to lose,” Ivanovic said after the match. “So I’m very disappointed with today.”

Ivanovic looked flat and although she mounted a challenge in the second set, Azarenka reached the quarterfinals on her first match point for a solid 6-2, 6-3 victory.

Azarenka will next face world number one Dinara Safina, who has dropped just five games in four matches.

“She’s been playing great tennis,” Azarenka said when asked about her next match. “She was just killing people so far.”

“I just need to get ready, really well and play my best tennis to beat her.”

can’t wait for Azarenka – Safina…Azarenka’s got so much fight that I can’t see her going down without at least making it interesting…

That hopefully will be a good match tomorrow. Azarenka’s playing well, but I’m not convinced that she can take down Safina right now.

I disagree. Vika will surprise the world again as she did when she beat Serena two months ago! Vika is getting no press at all and is at least as tenacious as Safina. I’m betting on Vika!
