Reigning French Open winner Svetlana Kuznetsova has withdrawn from the event because of a foot injury.

Kuznetsova, who also won the 2004 US Open for her first major title, reached the quarterfinals of the LA Women’s Tennis Championships in 2003 and 2004.

Despite Kuznetsova’s withdrawal, the $700,000 LA Women’s Tennis Championships presented by Herbalife features one of its strongest draws in tournament history, showcasing 10 of the top 15 female players in the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour rankings.

I feel bad for Kuznetsova. Her year was starting to go so well. It is like Zvonareva. She injured her ankel during the spring and then reinjured at Wimby. Then lost in the first round at Istabul. I feel bad for any injured player but when they are doing well like Kuzi winning Roland Garros, or Zvonareva winning INdian Wells, then it is sad.
