Aces and Faults: Clijsters and Dementieva to Play Tennis in Water Fountains

Two of the world’s best women tennis players will play a match Saturday, Aug. 8, in the large water fountains at King Island.

Former world number one ranked Kim Clijsters – who is making her return at the Western & Southern Financial Group Masters and Women’s Open in Mason – will take on number four ranked Elena Dementieva.

Molik to make her singles comeback next month
Former world No. 8 Alicia Molik has set a date for her singles comeback, earmarking a small $US25,000 Pro Circuit event in Darwin next month to launch her return from almost a year in retirement.

The unranked Molik, who is currently holidaying in New Zealand, will first attempt to play doubles on the North American hardcourt circuit.

Adam Peterson Named USTA National Coach
In this role, Peterson will facilitate coaching and training programs while working with players in the USTA Player Development program. He will be based at the USTA Training Center-West in Carson, Calif., and will report to Ola Malmqvist, Director of Women’s Tennis, USTA Player Development.

Offseason training in Ojai paying off for Zvonareva
From Zvonareva’s perspective, her five weeks in Ojai was time well spent.

“(Weil Academy) was a really nice place and it had all the facilities any pro tennis player could need,” Zvonareva said. “The staff there also helped me prepare and meet my extensive training schedule needs.”

Tour Stars Up for Jefferson Award
Sony Ericsson WTA Tour stars Venus Williams, Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic have been nominated for the prestigious 2009 Jefferson Award for Outstanding Public Service by an Athlete. The award is presented by All Stars Helping Kids, a national non-profit founded by National Football League Hall-of-Famer Ronnie Lott.

Ana and Byrnes part company
Ana has ceased working with Scott Byrnes, her strength and conditioning coach of the past three years.

After travelling the world almost non-stop for several years, Byrnes decided to take a break in his native Australia.
