Former world number one Kim Clijsters continued her remarkable comeback run at Flushing Meadows on Tuesday.
The 2005 US Open champion booked the first spot in Friday’s semifinals with a straight sets win over Li Na.
It was a dominating performance by Clijsters who romped past the Chinese star in just sixty-three minutes for a 6-2, 6-4 victory. Today’s quarterfinal win marked Clijsters’ 100th career Grand Slam win and extended her US Open winning streak to twelve matches.
Awaiting Clijsters in the US Open semifinals is world number two and longtime nemesis Serena Williams.
Williams and Clijsters have met on eight prior occasions with Serena winning their last meeting six years ago in Miami. Overall, Serena has dominated their head to head record 6-1 with Clijsters’ lone win occurring at the WTA Championships in 2002 on carpet.
