Although stopping short of issuing a formal apology, Serena Williams has issued a written statement to her fans regarding her actions during the 2009 US Open semifinal.
Her behavior toward a lineswoman who called her on a foot fault has resulted in a fine of $10,500 levied by the USTA and an investigation that may merit a harsher punishment.
“Last night everyone could truly see the passion I have for my job,” Williams said in the statement released by her management.
“Now that I have had time to gain my composure, I can see that while I don’t agree with the unfair line call, in the heat of battle I let my passion and emotion get the better of me and as a result handled the situation poorly. I would like to thank my fans and supporters for understanding that I am human and I look forward to continuing the journey, both professionally and personally, with you all as I move forward and grow from this experience.”
Serena is still expected to contest the women’s doubles final on Monday with her sister Venus.

The mixed doubles final!?!?
HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA
[...] Serena Williams has issued a formal statement to her fans. She has also been fined $10,500 dollars for unsportsmanlike conduct and racquet [...]
Disappointing – Serena did not apologize and doing so would show true sorrow for her horrific actions.
Oops – bad typo. It’s been fixed.
That ignorant and arrogant fat *** should be disqualified long time ago, along with her sister and a racist father.
Tennis has always been a game of mutual respect and honor. People like her get a real bad reputation for American players.
@Michael,
I see what you mean,
by a game of mutual respect + honor,
typified by the slanted one-world of Tennis
as it were before the two -as you say-
arrogant journey-women. You mean an elitist,
technical jumbo jumbo of hitting a greenish ball…lol
They were good enough to bring casuals
like myself into the game;
Never mind, they are at the twillight now,
so you will alongside the tour have Tennis
back the way it was.
Is she human, or is she denser?
She may be human. But this statement after the one she put out yesterday just sounds like she trying to cover her butt so she doesn’t get suspended. The only person she said sorry to that she many have meant it was to Kim.
I personally don’t buy it.
