I agree, I also cant wait to see Justine in action again. She had the best game on tour and was a great challenge for other players. Also she had a real respect for the game and great competitive fire. Looking forward to hear her aleez again.

Right on, Ted! Everyone's looking forward to 2010 with Justine playing again on tour. Those who have been passive women's tennis watchers and fans when she 'retired' would be back on their seats as well. 2010 will be more exciting with her comeback, i think.

Suzi - the tour lacked competition, consistency and intensity for the very fact that Justine Henin, herself wasn't on the tour setting a standard for the rest of the tour as a leader. When she left in May 2008 the others lost the barometer to strive for and were unmotivated.
Once Justine is back it will keep everyone on their toes, even Kim Clijsters, who might be tempted to under perform because it was too easy at the US Open a few months ago.

I'm having difficulty choosing any stand out moments. Maybe, had Safina won a Slam, I guess it would have been something to remember. Likewise, Elena D; She started off so well in 2009, but Elena always trips up somewhere. I was hoping she will finally break her grand slam jinx, that would have been memorable. Serena's performance was expected, Melanie O did quite well, but had she reached the final of the U.S Open and even lost that would have been special.

Justine plays great tennis, and is a wonderfully gutsy player. Somehow, I feel her comeback might not be as enjoyable as she is thinking. She may well just rise back to the top, she has the talent, but the WTA tour seems to lack something....competition?, consistency?, intensity?, I hope she will still find it as gratifying cause I think she thrives on emotions to bring out her best( I hope she proves me wrong). Just my opinion, but well done to Safina, Serena, Kim and Caroline for a good year.

2009 just goes to show that there is some truth in the saying that, motivation can always triumph over mere talent. We need not only talented players but also, motivated players(much like Melanie) to create more excitement on the tour.

Caroline Wozniacki has been the star to me. She's positive, fair and hates to loose. Did a great job in US open and Doha - still remember her game against Zvonareva. Her charming win in Eastbourne and New Haven. A good ambassador for the tennis game.Well liked by all players (I think). And she's not bad looking either ;-) I expect a great 2010 for her if she's improving in boxing ;-))

I think this year's U.S. Open contained, by far, two of the greatest moments of the 2009 season. From Melanie Oudin, "BELIEVING" her way out of near obscurity to reach the quarters, taking out three seeded players along the way, to Kim Clijsters' triumphant return to tennis, becoming the eventual Champion at her first Grand Slam back, there is no doubt that the final slam of the season took the cake this year.
