American tennis player Lindsay Davenport has spoken out in support of her friend Elin Nordegren, the wife of embattled golfer Tiger Woods.
Speaking to American media outlet Entertainment Tonight, Davenport defended Nordegren as being “very loving, very loyal” and “level-headed.”
After Woods was knocked unconscious in a car accident at his home on November 27, tabloids began suggesting that he was the victim of domestic abuse at the hands of his wife. Davenport has stated that those rumors are false.
“The insinuation that [Elin] would be aggressive or attacking is just preposterous,” Davenport said. “She always handles herself with class.”
Since the accident, Woods has apologized for “transgressions”, saying that he let his family down. Davenport hopes that the damage to the Woods marriage can be repaired. “Anyone’s wish when they get married is to make it work, and we’ll see if they can do that,” added Davenport.

I think only those of you who are close to the family can make the best judgments. I’m so sorry that the publicity has been relentless. I certainly wish them well. They will have to work very hard at developing the level of trust to continue their wonderful relationship.
