Justine Henin plans to play an ambitious schedule before arriving in Melbourne for the 2010 tennis season’s opening Grand Slam.

Henin, a three-time former champion in Sydney, has received a wildcard for next month’s Medibank International.

She joins an outstanding women’s draw tournament organizers believe is the best in its 125 year history. Nine of the world’s top ten, including Serena Williams, Dinara Safina, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Caroline Wozniacki and Elena Dementieva and Australia’s world No. 13 Samantha Stosur have entered the tournament.

“I have a lot of happy memories of Sydney and have won the title three times, so I am looking forward to returning in January as part of my preparation for the Australian Open,” Henin said.

“The women’s draw is very impressive and it will be great to get some tough, competitive matches at the Medibank International Sydney before heading to Melbourne.”

The 27-year-old has found plenty of success at the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre, having won the event previously in 2004, 2006 and 2008.
