Your Call: Who Will Win the 2010 Sony Ericsson Open Women’s Title?

Published by Aaress Lawless on Apr 2, 2010 | Print |

It’s down to the final two women left standing at the 2010 Sony Ericsson Open—and fans are set for a thrilling championship match in Miami. It’s your call: who will win as Venus Williams takes on Kim Clijsters?

Your CallWho will win the newly retitled Butch Buchholz Championship Trophy on Saturday? Will it be Venus Williams, who alongside her sister Serena, has traditionally dominated at this tournament for over a decade. Or will Kim Clijsters back up her new US Open title with a win at the “5th Slam” on Key Biscayne?

This weekend’s final marks the twelfth career meeting between the two former world number ones. Venus holds a 6-5 win-loss record over Kim; they are split at 3-3 apiece for matches on hard court; four of their matches have been finals, with the honors split evenly 2-2.

The elder Williams sister will beat the elder Clijsters sister, for the simple reason that Clijsters’s semi-final was much tougher and much later in the day than Williams’s semi-final.

The day off will favour Williams, as will the extra day off that she had between her quarter-final and her semi-final.
