Williams, who won her thirteenth major title only weeks ago at the Championships, cut her foot on broken glass at a restaurant, according to the Associated Press. She will undergo an operation on her right foot to repair the damage.

“I’m so upset I won’t be able to play in the upcoming events because of this foot surgery,” Williams said to the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour. “Thank you for all of your support. I can’t wait to get back on the courts.”

She will be absent from the draws at Istanbul, Cincinnati and Montreal.

I’m pretty sure this is going to be a non-issue come U.S. Open time, but surgery sounds pretty serious. I guess it leaves things wide open for the rest of the summer for anyone who wants to step up…who will it be?

I hope that this does not keep her out of the US Open. She was in such great shape and playing well. I was hoping she would take the US Open championship. Get well soon, Serena!!
