Published by Aaress Lawless on Oct 8, 2010 | Print |

Former world number one Dinara Safina has made the decision to end her disappointing 2010 Sony Ericsson WTA Tour tennis season early.

Dinara SafinaSafina, who failed to go past the fourth round at a major tournament this year, announced the news on her website Friday.

“Unfortunately, my back injury is acting up again and I’ve decided not to play any more tournaments the rest of the season,” wrote Safina.

“It has been the worst year of my career mainly because of my injury that has kept me away from several tournaments and kept me from playing my game of tennis. I am sorry for the fans that expected me to continue on the same track as the last two years. I will heal my back and prepare for 2011, when I intend to show my real value to the tennis fans all over the world.”

Safina is currently ranked at No. 50 in singles on the WTA Tour.
