The German Andrea Petkovic took down world number one Caroline Wozniacki in the Women’s Singles 4th round of the Sony Ericsson yesterday. Petkovic won the first set 7-5, before Wozniacki fought back to take the second 6-3. Petkovic with her intelligent approach to the match finished the third set not by over powering Caroline, but by outsmarting her.
“Most of the players think they can overpower Caroline. That’s the wrong approach. That’s where she’s the most comfortable, when she can run and bring balls back. And then once you lose your concentration, she goes for it. If you try to hit every single shot with full power, she just gets more comfortable, and eventually you’re going to miss. She’s not going to miss. What I tried to do was mix it up and make her play, then when I had the short ball, go for it.”
If you haven’t seen Petkovic’s unique humour and style be sure to check out her You Tube Channel called “Petkorazzi”, for some fun and entertaining behind the scenes footage of tennis and her life.
Petko on her next video:
“I’m working on it, but the problem is when I play well, I have less time to do it. To be able to do a good Petkorazzi video I should lose earlier. I think I’ll keep focused on my tennis now, and Petkorazzi is my second priority. After the tournament maybe I’ll have a few days to film some behind-the-scenes stuff.”
