The Australian Open women’s draw was released today, and defending champion Victoria Azarenka has an ominous roadblock in the way of a repeat: a potential match with Serena Williams in the semifinals. Azarenka has lost 11 out of 12 to the consensus 2012 Player of the Year. On the other side of the draw, second seed Maria Sharapova could see Venus Williams in the second round, but should she clear that hurdle the rest of the way to the final is fairly clear. A diminished Samantha Stosur and counterpunching Li Na fall and Angelique Kerber are her biggest threats.

Jon Wertheim tabs young American hopefuls Sloane Stephens and Madison Keys as players to watch, and for Serena to beat Li in the final.

Peter Bodo says the time is now for Li Na after an intense offseason training program with Justin Henin’s former coach.
