Maria Sharapova has thrown down the gauntlet to the five women remaining in the draw at the 2008 Australian Open.
She wants her third Grand Slam title and is willing to pummel anyone, including the world’s best player, to bring the trophy home.

World No. 1 Justine Henin won her thirty-second consecutive match on Sunday with a solid 6-2, 6-2 win over Su-Wei Hsieh at the Australian Open.
Henin will face Maria Sharapova in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.

The Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships has announced that world No. 1 and defending champion Justine Henin plans to return to Dubai with the goal of defending her title in February.
Svetlana Kuznetsova, Jelena Jankovic, Ana Ivanovic, Maria Sharapova, and Serena Williams are also scheduled to participate in the Tier II tournament.

World No. 1 Justine Henin leads the top section of the women’s draw at the 2008 Australian Open, and is in the same half as Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, Jelena Jankovic, Amelie Mauresmo, and Lindsay Davenport.
Should Sharapova and Lindsay Davenport both win their opening round matches, they will meet in the second round of the tournament.

In a rematch of the 2007 US Open championship match, world No. 1 Justine Henin will face world No. 2 Svetlana Kuznetsova on Friday for the 2008 Medibank International title.
Their last meeting at Flushing Meadows was short and entirely one-sided; Henin defeated Kuznetsova in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.

World number one Justine Henin is the recipient of the 2007 United States Sports Academy Female Athlete of the Year award.
