Wimbledon was rocked on Thursday by Maria Sharapova’s stunning loss, which has now opened up the bottom section of the women’s draw.
Nine seeded players will compete on Friday, including Ana Ivanovic, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Serena Williams, and Amelie Mauresmo.

Last year’s Wimbledon finalist Marion Bartoli may skip the 2008 Championships because of a wrist injury.
Bartoli was upset in the second round of the DFS Classic on Wednesday before hinting that she may miss the next Grand Slam.

Only eight women’s singles matches were completed on Tuesday at Roland Garros, forcing tournament organizers to plan an ambitious schedule of play for Wednesday.
Weather permitting, players from both sides of the women’s draw will hit the courts on Wednesday, including top seed Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams.

Tournament officials for the Bausch & Lomb Championships announced Wednesday morning that four of the top fifteen players on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour have committed to join in the singles main draw field.
Anna Chakvetadze, Marion Bartoli, Elena Dementieva, and Nicole Vaidisova have been added to the already impressive player list.
